Dietitians celebrate Nutrition Month with Eating 9 to 5! campaign

Saskatoon, SK, February 24, 2015—Almost half of Canadians (45%) say that eating healthy meals and snacks while at work is challenging, according to an Ipsos Reid poll conducted for Dietitians of Canada.

“With limited time to prep meals, rushed mornings and sugar-loaded temptations at work, it’s no wonder we experience mid-day slumps and commuter cravings,” saysGloria Tsang, a Vancouver-based dietitian, founder of and author ofGo UnDiet.

You can banish those 3 p.m lows and fast food cravings by adding Canadian lentils to your lunch and snacks, says Gloria.

Gloria’s Tips for Eating Well at Work with Canadian Lentils (+Recipes)
Always pair a carb snack with a protein snack. Protein helps stabilizing blood sugar and help make us full longer.
  • Try Quinoa Lentil Salad Wraps, easy to prepare ahead and eat at your desk when in a rush. Or, simply top any salads with cooked lentils for a quick nutrition boost.
  • Snacks can be nutritious too.  Most sweet snacks are loaded with simple carbohydrate with lots of sugar and not much fibre and other nutrients. However, you can totally make over your snacks by incorporating lentils.
  • Remember to power up in the mornings to get you through the day.
  • For those morning or evening commutes, try this easy Blueberry Oatmeal Lentil Muffins
  • Prepare ingredients that need to be cooked ahead. For instance, pre-cook lentils on weekends and store them in the fridge to be used on weekdays. Alternately, choose canned lentils. For a super easy guide on how to cook lentils,

About Me

My photo

I started my "working life" as a holistic and allopathic nutritional consultant with a love of cooking. Teaching the value of wholesome meal choices to families became close to my heart after I battled a long history of struggles with weight and health, and the passion for teaching led me into where I am now. My blog, which focuses on "bringing good taste to healthier food" through creative use of whole grains, fresh produce and acknowledging the importance of the occasional treat, also features a wealth of "specialty diet" friendly recipes for gluten-, egg-, dairy- and sugar- tree nut-free items that everyone can enjoy without alienating those who need them.

Overall, I want to bring back the desire for good quality, homemade, (mostly) healthy food into the hearts and kitchens of families so that the next generation will be less box-reliant than mine. I firmly believe that any “homemade” food, even when labelled as "naughty", is a more wholesome treat than pre-packaged, cookie-cutter junk. With the knowledge of good food (and how to cook good food) as a base, a healthy lifestyle can follow, and then anything is possible!
